Designer Claudia Lee was raised in New Zealand, which is known for some of the planet’s most picturesque landscapes. Even though one may grow up surrounded by beauty, they have to be able to convey that beauty to others. Such an ability comes from being a part of a family of art enthusiasts, of which Ms Li hails. Her designs are what we would consider “wearable art”. The attention to detail that she puts into her clothing line, clearly comes from an artist that cares deeply about the final product and how it makes the wearer feel. This artist’s carefully chosen materials and patterns, lent to a show that was diverse in textures along with the occasions to wear them.

Though this was in an autumn/winter show, Claudia mixed in outfits for every season. Actually, I even remembered seeing an ensemble that would look at home on a comfy couch, in front of a fireplace on a snowy afternoon and with matching slippers and pillow to boot. Silken dresses and leather jackets with accompanying shorts. Sweaters, denim outfits and the large assortment of long coats, were plentiful on the runway. The one accessory that stood out for me, were her handbags. Some reminded me of the type of totes the fashionistas of the 1950s would carry. Rigid and having enough room for everything, but still not looking oversized. Others were of the under-carry type, made out of woven material or my absolute favorite, fur. A fitting accent to her already stunning line.

Miss Lee most certainly has a flair for variety, but not in a way that seems like she is reaching to appeal to everyone…. her creations just do without trying. I guess those are the results when sewing through the eyes of an artist.
