Fiction Tokyo NYFW F/W 2018
Not every fashion show has to be a solemn affair. It’s so very nice to see creations from a designer be both playful and cheery. “Dressed not to kill any guys, but to please one girl in the mirror”, is the motto of Japanese designer Fiction Tokyo. Producing a line that is clearly for the fashionista, Monaca Nishi made sure that the wearer would stand out even in the middle of a crowd of other fashionistas. Using, in her own words “fake leather”, as highlights to all of her outfits, she was able to make each of them come alive. The spectrum of clothing that we were presented with, ranged from ready-to-wear, all the way out to “I carry a whip and handcuffs with me to work.” But it was the juxtaposition of the models wearing the black bunny-ear masks that made everything come together. Not used as a distraction or prop, but more of an accent, the identical masks forced the audience to concentrate on the garments, which is why we were there in the first place. Seeing what was presented to us in February, I can’t wait to see more from fiction Tokyo next season.
