Stella Nolasco 2018 NYFW Collection
Que Bonita Bandera de Puerto Rico! If you ask Stella Nolasco about her homeland you’ll find out quickly that her heart beats for Puerto Rico. The Puerto Rican designer called the island her home all her life up until the recent natural tragedy for Hurricane Maria in 2017 destroying their home and forcing her family to now take residency in Italy.
Stella mixed this season’s fashion show with a strong presence of advocacy for her homeland. Models from all different nationalities and cultural backgrounds boldly walked the runway with Puerto Rican flags, and signs saying “Equality is sexy”. Our Editor-in-“Chic”, Marquita Bianca, had an extended interview with Stella about how she would be using her collection to bring awareness to the needs of Puerto Rico and its people (be sure to check it out in our interview section). We sat front row to not only beautiful fabrics, models and upbeat music but behind the sexy lace and high splits was a very clear message.
Puerto Rico needs our love and attention. Nolasco has stepped up to that challenge and started her show with a “Visit Puerto Rico” campaign video to educate onlookers about all the beautiful attributes of the island. A percentage of proceeds from her show will go to helping rebuild the island. So, buying this seasons’s designs does so much more than stroking the ego by looking good, it touches your soul by helping those in need.
