Bibhu Mohapatra NYFW F/W 2018
The inspiration for fashion can come from many different places this is why we consider fashion design to be that of a true art. This seasons Bibhu Mohapatra collection for New York Fashion week took inspiration from Francesco Clemente’s portraits featured in the film Great Expectations.
Bibhu moved to America in 1996 to pursue fashion and since has received numerous awards from The Rising Star Award in 2010 for his women’s apparel by the Fashion Group International all the way to the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award in 2011. In June 2010 Bibhu also became a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Bibhu’s love for fashion and textiles gave birth to a beautiful collection this season featuring fabrics in merlot, fiery red, berry and plum. Dresses, skirts and everything in between were a walking example of Dickensian dynamic between Miss Havisham and Estella. Fabric and design color choices shown were said by Bibhu to highlight the contrast of love and neglect as well as forgiveness and censure from his inspiration of the movie. The results were beautifully handcrafted pieces of art on the run way.
