Katie Gallagher's SS 2018 Collection
Katie Gallagher presented her 2018 Summer-Spring collection during New York Fashion Week on September 8th, 2017. The designer put a twist on the concept of Spring by not basing her inspiration on the typical idea of Spring but instead, something that Spring always brings, "rain".
Her unique style is known for being dark and interesting, leading to catching the interest of magazines, such as Vogue. Instead of a traditional fashion show, Gallagher had a "Rain Presentation" executing her end goal, which, as stated on her website, is to communicate stories, personalities, moods, ideals, and attitudes through fashion.
The room was set very dark as a projector showed changing blue and dull white falling lights of rain behind the models. The music was accompanied by sounds of rain and thunder. Models stood still throughout most of the presentation holding their pose with soft but serious expressions. It was as if they were reliving a memory in the rain and remembering how it felt. The spotlight shined on one model at a time so that attendees could appreciate the details in the clothing. After a few minutes, they would walk in their outfit briefly and come back to their places. Her collection had a gloomy feel, yet it was also peaceful with the right amount of sensuality.
Colors consisted of mainly black, white, and see-through. She had many of her signature fabrics such as sheer and mesh, paired with thick lines and pearls. She included different types of outfits from casual, to dressy and lingerie. A number of outfits had tights that actually covered the heels all the way, giving all the attention to the clothes. Like rain, the girls looked like beautiful natural phenomenons.
We look forward to seeing a lot more of Katie Gallagher's "Gothic-Cool" style (as Vogue calls it) in the years to come!
