Every-so-often, one is able to be fortunate enough to witness something very special. A lot of times, its truly a matter of being in the right place, at the right time. Some would call it chance, while others would call it the “stars aligning”. I was one of the people that got to see, first hand, the art and passion of master clothier Naeem Khan in February. Occasionally, a designer and in this case artist, reminds you that a finished piece, should not only be pleasing to the eye, but also stir up something inside the viewer. Mr Khan put on a display of garments, that looked like they were from a yet discovered culture that was decades ahead of anything that we currently are aware of. Much the same as when a super advance alien would say that Capt Kirk was from a “savage species that has many lifetimes to achieve what they had, many lifetimes ago”. That is essentially how I felt as the models walked by. What is even more astonishing, is how he is able to outdo the masterpieces from the previous season. The well that Mr Khan is able to tap his inspirations from seems to be bottomless.
I am purposely staying away from describing his clothing, because no matter what I write, the words will do them no justice. I will say this, the last piece that he showed for this season, ranks near the top of those chance encounters I wrote about earlier. It was beautiful, ornate, intricate and elegant and without a doubt, a piece of art. I am very sorry that you could not have been there, but I am so happy that I was in the right place, at the right time.
