When one thinks of Eastern Europe, one usually thinks of cold, rugged, colorless and utilitarian. Strange though, Bata Spasojevic usde that to his advantage when it came to clothing design. For the gents, he used a lot of leather and fur, for which again goes along with the Eastern European theme of things being there for purpose. Harsh weather conditions call for a material that is not only tough, but keeps the wearer alive. In this case, the clothing is also very stylish. For the ladies he kept with the same theme, but added sheer, satin and dainty flowers to the garments for a more feminine look. One interesting thing about his Arthearts Fashion Show, was the addition of a live electronic band. A good portion of the music played at fashion shows these days is of the electronic genre, but to hear the music played live was a definite treat for the crowd. The band helped top off a clothing line that was clearly made to break the stereotype of how us Westerners look at clothing coming from that part of the world.
