NY School of Design

It is always a positive to provide an individual with a place to learn and grow, while still staying rooted in the basics. The New York School of Design is that place where those whom are interested in fashion design, can get an industry standard education in it. If what was shown during the Nolcha Independent Designer Show, is an indication of what one can expect from a graduate of this institution, the students have a very bright future ahead of them. The range of clothing from the pupils was vast and inventive, with nothing that looked similar to any other garment they put on exhibition. Starting off with a zippered jumpsuit that is reminiscent of a high altitude parachutist, onto an outfit of a crushed leather jacket along with foil typed pants. Going to a flared pants ensemble, with a liquid leather top and matching hat, that looked straight out of wardrobe room of Buck Rogers. These garments were surely on display to show what type of imagination the students had, but then they took a different turn...

The school showed a series of outfits that would be at home in any fashionistas closet, that spent a lot of time in entertaining guest. A classic off-shoulder silk halter top pants outfit, made for an actress attending a movie premier in Hollywood. Dresses that Cinderella's evil sisters would be envious of as she stepped out of her pumpkin carriage. My personal favorite was a floor-length, open back, evening gown with flowered straps morphing into a choker. Nice is an absolute understatement. The New York School of Design, by far, have demonstrated that they are a place that will allow the students creation to flourish, but not requiring them to follow a preconceived structure.
