Going to New York Fashion Week is always a joy, because I get to see the best of what all the top designers in the world have to offer. It is akin to going to the Detroit Motor show or Photokina or The Paris Airshow. The only problem is that the larger design houses tend to overshadow the smaller ones. Every designer started off somewhere and like most start up operations, exposure is usually an issue. Having the best product is not enough, if no one knows that said product even exists. Nolcha Shows sees to it that those up-and-coming designers have a place to exhibit their creations, in a formal and well thought out venue.
The Nolcha Shows were recently held in the ArtBeam Gallery, a beautiful venue in the Chelsea district of Manhattan on September 12, 2017. Some of the featured designers for the runway show were Rohitava Banerjee, Syu Syu Han and ACID NYC. By the way, one of the nicest things about the day was the minuscule time between the shows themselves. I've covered “one or two” fashion shows and I can say, the worst part is the wait between the shows. Sometimes an hour and a half between each designer, but not during the Nolcha Shows. I honestly don't know how they get the models turned around so fast. It's absolutely amazing!!! For a spectator, it has to be the most pleasant series of events during all of New York Fashion Week. Even for the press and the photographers, the arrangement and overall organization is second to none. One thing that makes how Nolcha is so different from other shows, is the fact that they set aside a separate day solely for the accessory designers. A model walks onto the runway with wearing more than a dress, shirt or pants, they are wearing shoes, scarves, earrings, belts and whatever other accoutrements the clothing designer deems necessary. Usually, no one has access to those that create the “little things” that complete an ensemble, but the Nolcha Shows give us that access. By the way, that isn't just access to the accessories, but to the designers of the accessories themselves. So when a handbag or necklace catches the eye, we were afforded the opportunity to get up close and personal with the brand. This is why the Nolcha Shows are some of the most beloved and respected fashion shows in the industry.
