Stella Nolasco Exclusive Interview
Backstage preparing for a Stella Nolasco show is a mix of energy, smiles, and the normal show craziness. The craziness as a term that may be taken negatively immediately melts away when you meet Stella. She will remind you that the room you are in is full of hardworking people on a mission to get a job done and bless that need a miracle. Our Editor and “Chic” spent some time backstage getting to know Stella and her awesome staff in this exclusive interview.
MB: Stella, thank you so much for this opportunity. This year women are making big bold statements all through out many industries. Does it feel differently to be showcasing this season because of that?
SN: I have always called myself a “feminine feminist”. I believe, being raised the only daughter with Latinos brothers that women are powerful. Right now I’m using that power and this stage of New York Fashion Week to send a powerful message and that is Puerto Rican’s are U.S Citizens and they are in crisis. Its a beautiful island with talented people so people should come and visit. By People visiting and having a good time on our island they will be helping to get our beautiful home back on track.
MB: Do you have organizations that you are working with this season?
SN: Yes, we are donating part of this collection which will be auctioned off at an upcoming event by the Foundation of Puerto Rico. We also want to spread awareness of tourism to the island which is our major industry.
MB: What can we look forward to seeing next season, in the midst of everything happening we can only imagine the inspirations you much be drawing from?
SN: Yes!! Right now I am living in Italy. My daughter suffers from upper respiratory challenges and with our home in Puerto Rico being flooded we have moved. I am getting a lot of inspiration from my recent travels. My husband is Italian and I love it there but I see that even in my third year of showing here nothing is like my home.
