Nina Tiari Exclusive Interview
Collection & Designer Name: Nina Tiari
Show: NYFW 2/13/17
What was your inspiration for the designs you created this season?
Women, strong powerful women.
Have you shown in NYFW before?
No, this is my first time. I'm actually surprisingly centered right now, just because all my nerves and preparations took place before this moment. I'm a very organized person so I think I'm in a good place.
What motivates you as a fashion designer?
Women, women that inspire me daily. The women in my family and even the women whom I may inspire. Women who are active and have a voice. Even young girls so that I can provide them with something to look up to.
Growing up were any family members into fashion or is this a passion of yours?
My dad actually was the one at a very young age taught me about fashion. He taught me that when you walk into a room and when your confident what that can give you. It's not about the materialistic things but the confidence you exclude when you enter into a room. When you feel good you have the confidence to go out and do whatever you want. I'm a girly girl and a tomboy so a lot of the piece are inspired by men's wear. So you will see some jackets, blazers, and coats.
Do you prefer to design Fall/Winter garments or Spring/Summer garments?
I personally like to wear Fall/Winter because I like to wear blazers a lot. I like the deep tones that come with the Fall season. To design, every time I go to the stores and look at fabrics I'm so excited by the Spring/Summer fabrics because they are so playful and exciting.
What advice would you give to aspiring fashion designers?
Keep trying. Stay persistent. Believe in yourself. Don't doubt yourself. Don't let anyone tell you no. You can always find people to help you!
