Designer Interview with Aleah Faith Designs
Collection Name: Leah Faith Designs
Upcoming Showcase: Baltimore Fashion Week 8/12/2016
What were your inspirations for the designed you created for the Baltimore Show?
Most of the pieces in my collection are pieces that just came to me while I was sketching. Some of them are inspired by fabrics I have found. Some of the pieces were inspired by my models.
What was it like seeing your clothing on the runway the first time?
I was eight when I had my first show and I was really proud of what I created. I got so much positive feedback afterwards that it inspired me to get really serious about designing.
How do you balance creativity with commerce?
I really have a hard time because when I design for adults clients, sometime they want to change what I had in mind. Because I am still a kid, I feel like I need to be respectful but at the same time, I want to stand up for what I create.
Where do you see (Line Name) in the next 5 years?
I am too young for Project Runway Jr. but I have a shirt that says, “Destination Project Runway Junior 2018” Meanwhile, I am hoping to find a mentor who will help me to grow as a designer and perfect my craft in construction. By 2020, I want to start my own boutique.
I think fashion is the way each generation says who they are through how they dress and style themselves.
What is the most challenging part about being a fashion designer?
Making what is in my head. Sometimes I come up with some complicated designs. I am still learning the more advanced sewing techniques so it gets very frustrating.
